What Personally Identifiable Information Does Bits & Bytes, Inc. Gather About You?
We gather four types of information about you.
1. Information You Give Us. We collect and store the information you enter on our site and that you provide in other ways. We use this information for various purposes, for example, to respond to your requests and suggestions, to customize your future shopping experiences, to improve our site, and to communicate with you. We collect and store your login information, name, mailing address, shipping address and information, email address, phone number, fax number, website URL, and password. Storing this information allows us to supply your password, if you lose or forget it, once you have properly identified yourself. We temporarily store your credit card information. After processing your credit card, we delete your credit card number. You can choose not to provide certain information, but this may hinder your ability to enjoy various features of our site.
2. Automatic Information. Whenever you interact with our site, we collect and store several types of information in a "cookie," a small text file that our web site writes to your computer's hard drive by means of your browser. Cookies enable our web site to perform several essential functions. For example, cookies enable our web site to recognize your browser, to track usage patterns, to deliver customized content, and to identify the items you have added to your shopping cart. If you accidentally leave our site or experience computer difficulties, the cookie will cause the items you have added to your cart to be listed the next time you log on to our site, thus ensuring that your cart never loses an item. A cookie stores useful information; it is not able to read information from your hard drive.
We also collect and store your user ID, a unique number that is not personally identifiable to you; the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet; information about your computer system, such as browser type and version, platform and operating system; the full Uniform Resource Locator (URL) click stream to, through, and from our site, including date and time; a cookie number; and a list of the products you viewed or searched for. This information is tied to your personal information.
During some visits we may use software tools such as JavaScript to measure and collect session information, including page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), and methods used to browse away from the page.
Should you wish to disable cookies or have your browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, consult the Help feature on your browser's toolbar. To take full advantage of some of our site's best features, we recommend that you leave cookies enabled on your browser.
3. Email Communications. We often receive a confirmation, by means of a cookie, when you open our emails. This helps us ensure that our emails address your interests. Additionally, to avoid sending duplicate emails we compare our customer list with lists received from other companies. If you do not wish to receive email or other mail from us, please go to the Bits & Bytes, Inc. Your Account, login, select "Modify Your Profile," and modify your preferences.
If you use our Email-A-Friend feature to send product information from our site to a friend, we capture the email address and follow up with a one-time email of our own that invites your friend to visit our site. Bits & Bytes, Inc. does not store this information. We use the information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email.
4. Information from Other Sources. From time to time, we may receive information about you from other sources and add it to our account information. This information may include updated delivery and address information from our carriers or other third parties, which we use to correct our records and deliver your next purchase or communication more easily; search results and links, including paid listings (such as Sponsored Links from Google); and credit history information from credit bureaus, which we use to help prevent and detect fraud.
How Does Bits & Bytes, Inc. Use the Information We Gather About You?
We use the information we collect about you to improve the content of our Web Site, to improve your shopping experience, to notify registered users about our products, services, sales, and special offers, and to share information about new developments in our company. We do not share personally identifiable information that we collect and store with other organizations for commercial purposes in violation of the commitments set forth in this Privacy Notice.
